Albania hosted a new workshop on PCBs Management

10th February 2014 | Updated: 3rd April 2014

More than 50 participants attended the workshop on Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) management organized by SCP/RAC and MEDPOL, with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Water Administration of Albania, in Tirana (Albania) in January 21-24th 2014.

The workshop aimed at introducing the environmentally sound management (ESM) of PCBs to local experts and also training them on sampling and analysis of PCBs by using the semi-mobile analyzer L2000DX.

The practical training was conducted at the CEZ Transformer Repair Station Unit, including taking oil samples from transformers and drums and assessing repaired and out-of-use transformers present onsite.

The workshop comes within the framework of the MedPartnership sub-component 2.3: “Environmentally Sound Management of Equipment, stocks and wastes containing or contaminated by PCBs in national electricity companies of the Mediterranean countries”. Participants were from ministries and government institutions, transformer maintenance facilities, laboratories, private companies as well as NGOs and academics.
